How to Extract Audio from a Video (MP4 to MP3)

Keep a song, a speech or a lecture without the picture, or make a ringtone from a clip.

Updated October 2026

Save the soundtrack as an MP3

  1. Open Video to MP3 and choose your video: MP4, MOV and WebM all work.
  2. Keep MP3 at 192 kbps, a good balance of quality and size.
  3. Press Extract MP3, listen to the result, and download it.

Which quality should you choose?

  • 128 kbps: small files, fine for talks, lectures and voice notes.
  • 192 kbps: sounds great for music and speech; the best choice for most people.
  • 320 kbps: the highest MP3 quality, for music you care about.
  • WAV: no compression at all, for editing in an audio app. The file is about ten times bigger than an MP3.

Only part of the sound: make a clip or ringtone

Drag the two handles under the video to the start and end of the part you want, or play the video and press Start at current time and End at current time. Only that part is saved. Ringtones are usually under 30 seconds.

Mute a video instead

If you want the opposite, the picture without the sound, use the Video Trimmer and turn on Remove sound. Leave the handles at the start and end to mute the whole video.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert MP4 to MP3 on my phone?
Open Video to MP3 in Chrome or Safari, choose the video from your gallery and press Extract MP3. The MP3 is saved to your phone's downloads. No app is needed.
Does extracting audio lower its quality?
Converting to MP3 compresses the sound slightly, but at 192 or 320 kbps it's very hard to hear a difference. Choose WAV if you need the sound with no further compression.
Can I extract audio from any video?
From any video you made or have the right to use. Downloading or reusing other people's music or videos can break copyright, so please only extract sound you're allowed to use.
