About this tool
OCR PDF & Image to Text
OCR PDF turns a scanned PDF, or a JPG or PNG photo of a document, into a searchable PDF with selectable text. The text on each page is recognised and added as an invisible layer, so your pages look exactly the same but you can search, select and copy the words.
Use it to make scanned contracts, old letters, receipts, textbooks and printed forms searchable, to extract text from a scanned PDF for editing in a word processor, or to prepare scans for Compare PDF. Recognised text can also be copied or saved as a .txt file. Choose from English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese or Italian for the best accuracy; pages that already have selectable text are left unchanged.
The OCR engine and language data are downloaded to your device the first time, then all recognition runs in your browser — your scans are never uploaded.
