About this tool

Image to Text

Upload or paste a picture with text in it, choose the language and press Extract text. OCR (optical character recognition) reads the letters and gives you plain text you can edit, copy into a message or document, or download as a .txt file. Add several images at once and their text comes out in order.

It's useful for copying notes from a photo of the whiteboard or a textbook, text from a screenshot or a notice, details from a printed form or receipt, or quotes from a poster. Choose English + Hindi for text that mixes both scripts, or Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi or Urdu.

The text is read inside your browser, so your images are never uploaded and there's no daily limit or sign-up. The language data is downloaded the first time and then reused. For scanned PDFs, use OCR PDF; to turn a PDF into an editable document, use PDF to Word.

Yes. Choose Hindi, or English + Hindi if the text mixes both. Clear, printed Hindi is read well; handwriting and very stylised fonts are harder for any OCR.

Use a sharp, well-lit photo taken straight on, with the text filling most of the picture. Screenshots work best of all. Crop away anything that isn't text, and pick the right language.

Neat, printed-style handwriting sometimes works, but OCR is made for printed and on-screen text. Expect to correct a few words in handwritten notes.

No. The text is read in your browser and your images never leave your device.
