How to Prepare Your Photo and Signature for Any Government Form

A checklist that works for exam, job, bank and ID forms in India, and the free tools that do each step on your phone.

Updated October 2026

1. Read the exact rules in the notification

Every form sets its own rules, and they change from year to year. Before you start, note four things for each upload from the official notification: the dimensions (in cm or pixels), the minimum and maximum file size in KB, the format (almost always JPG) and any extras such as your name and date on the photo.

2. Take a photo that won't be rejected

  • Stand in front of a plain white or light wall, in daylight, facing the camera.
  • No cap or dark glasses, no filters, and a recent photo.
  • Keep your face and the top of your shoulders in the frame; the resizer crops it to the right shape.
  • Start from the original photo, not a WhatsApp-forwarded copy, which has lost quality.

3. Resize the photo to the right size and KB

Open the page for your exam if there is one (SSC, UPSC, NEET, JEE, IBPS, SBI, PAN card and others), which already has the sizes set, or the Photo Resizer for Exam for any other form. Type the size and KB range from the notification, upload the photo, and download the JPG when every check is green.

4. Sign, scan and resize the signature

Sign in black or blue ink on plain white paper, take a sharp photo from directly above, and upload it to the Signature Resizer with the KB range your form asks for, such as 10–20 KB. A signature on white paper is often too small in KB; the tool raises it to the minimum without changing how it looks.

5. Thumb impression and handwritten declaration

Bank exams and some others also ask for a left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration. Make them on white paper the same way as the signature, then resize them to their own KB limits on your exam's page, which has a separate tab for each.

6. Check before you upload

Use "Check one I have" on the resizer to test any file against the rules: format, KB size, pixel size and DPI. If something is off, Fix it automatically makes a corrected copy. Keep the final files in one folder, named clearly, so you can reuse them for the next form.

Frequently asked questions

What size should my photo be for a government form?
Most Indian forms ask for 3.5 × 4.5 cm, 20–50 KB, in JPG, and a signature of 10–20 KB, but always follow your notification, as each form can differ.
Can I do all of this on my phone?
Yes. Every tool here runs in your phone's browser, without an app, and your photos and signatures are never uploaded to our servers.
My signature file is too small. What do I do?
Use the Signature Resizer or Increase Image Size in KB. They add invisible padding to reach the minimum KB without changing the signature.
