Choose the fix that matches the problem
- Words are sideways or upside down: use Rotate PDF to turn the entire page in 90-degree steps.
- The page is upright but has large borders: use Crop PDF to change its visible area.
- The scan is only slightly tilted: these tools do not deskew it by an arbitrary angle. Correct the scan in a scanner or image editor first.
- The document has private information: cropping only hides content outside the visible page. Use Redact PDF for permanent removal.
Rotate a PDF and save the change
- Open Rotate PDF and choose the document. Check the page previews rather than assuming every page needs the same turn.
- For one sideways page, use the left or right arrow underneath its preview. Each click turns it 90 degrees. Two clicks turn an upside-down page 180 degrees; three clicks give a 270-degree turn.
- Use Rotate all left or Rotate all right only when the whole document needs the same adjustment. Pages that were already rotated keep that orientation plus your new turn.
- Press Save rotated PDF and open the downloaded file. This saves the orientation in a new PDF; simply rotating the view in a reader may not do that.
Crop PDF margins without cutting off the content
- Open Crop PDF and choose the upright PDF. If you just rotated a document, use the downloaded rotated version.
- Drag the crop handles inward, or enter the amount to remove from Top, Right, Bottom and Left in millimetres. Leave room for page numbers, headers and notes near the edges.
- Choose All pages, the current page only, or Choose pages and enter a range such as 1-3, 5. The margins are measured from each page's displayed edges.
- Check other pages before saving, especially if the PDF mixes page sizes. The tool will refuse a crop that leaves a targeted page smaller than 10 mm in either direction.
- Press Crop PDF and inspect the downloaded result. Keep the original until you know all the text and pictures you need are still visible.
Use different margins for mixed scans
A receipt, an A4 letter and a landscape diagram may sit in the same PDF. Applying one large crop to every page can hide information on the smaller pages. Start with the current-page option, or group pages with similar borders using a page range.
For example, trim 10 mm from the top of a letter only after checking whether its heading fits below that boundary. A different page may have a date or page number in that same strip. Neither the crop tool nor the rotation tool automatically understands which marks are important.
What stays in the PDF after saving?
Rotation updates the page orientation. Cropping updates the visible page boundary. Neither operation needs to rasterize the pages or recompress their pictures, so existing text can remain selectable. An image-only scan stays an image-only scan; making it searchable is a separate OCR task.
A crop does not delete the hidden content. Someone with a PDF editor may restore the old page area, so do not use it to conceal an address, signature or account number. Cropping also does not reliably reduce file size. If the upright, cropped result is still too large for a form, compress it as a separate step and check the quality again.
Working on a phone
Use the page arrows for rotation and the numeric margin fields when crop handles feel too small. The tools run in your browser; available memory and document complexity affect how quickly previews appear. Keep the tab open during saving and open the downloaded PDF before sharing it.
If a file is damaged or password-protected, resolve that before editing. An upright PDF that looks blank after cropping may simply have too much trimmed from one side; return to the original and try smaller margins. Closing the tab does not save an editable project.
Frequently asked questions
- Should I rotate or crop a PDF first?
- When both are needed, rotate and save the upright PDF first, then load that result in Crop PDF. It is easier to judge the top, bottom and side margins when the document is readable.
- Why is a PDF sideways again after I reopen it?
- Some reader controls only rotate the current view. Use Rotate PDF, press Save rotated PDF and reopen that downloaded file, rather than the original.
- Does cropping remove private information?
- No. Cropping hides part of the page without deleting its underlying content. Use a redaction tool and inspect its result for sensitive information.
- Will these tools automatically fix every page?
- No. You choose the rotations and crop margins. Whole-document controls apply the same adjustment to the pages you select, not automatic orientation or content detection.
