Updated October 2026

SSC photo and signature requirements

Recent Staff Selection Commission notifications use the same upload rules for most exams, including CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD Constable, CPO and Stenographer:

  • Photo: JPG, 20–50 KB, about 3.5 cm wide × 4.5 cm high, recent colour photo with a plain light background.
  • Signature: JPG, 10–20 KB, about 4.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm high, signed in black or blue ink on white paper.
  • Some recent SSC applications capture a live photo with your camera during the form. In that case you only upload the signature.

How to take a photo that won't be rejected

  • Use a recent photo (taken in the last few months) that looks like you do now.
  • Stand in front of a plain white or light wall, facing the camera, with your full face and the top of your shoulders visible.
  • Use even light from the front. Avoid shadows on your face or behind you.
  • No cap, sunglasses or filters. Spectacles are fine if your eyes are clearly visible and there is no glare.
  • Keep the phone at eye level and take the photo in portrait (upright) orientation.

How to resize your photo and signature for SSC

  1. Open the SSC Photo Resizer on your phone or computer.
  2. On the Photo tab, upload your photo. It is cropped to 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm and compressed to 20–50 KB automatically.
  3. Move the framing slider so your face is centred, then download the JPG.
  4. On the Signature tab, upload a clear photo of your signature and download it. It is made 4 cm × 2 cm and 10–20 KB.
  5. Upload both files to the SSC form. Check the preview on the form before you submit.

If the form still rejects your file

Check the size shown on the form against the numbers in your exam's notification. If they differ from the ones above, click Change on the resizer and type the new limits. See the guide on why exam photos get rejected for the other common causes.
